Comparison to YN560 (mk I), Canon 580EX II, March 23, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Yongnuo YN-560 II Speedlight Flash for Canon and Nikon. GN58. (Electronics) EDIT: A problem that I didn't experience at first - while the LCD screen is bright and easy to read in most situations (looking straight at it), I found out that it's not so easy to read from other angles. For example, if you put it on an umbrella swivel (for an umbrella, beauty dish, softbox, etc..) and have it angled it can be impossible to read. If tilted 90 degrees forward, it appears as if everything lights up on it (the LCD screen uses something similar to a digital alarm clock - so it looks like "1/188" which allows the "88" to light up certain parts to form different numbers. So it could be 1/1, 1/2.. 1/16, 1/32, 1/64, 1/128) Again, the problem is that at odd angles (like 90 degrees forward) it appears as "1/188" instead of what the actual power is. On the other hand, tilting it 90 degrees backwards it will look blank.. so the viewing angle isn't great and creates some readability issues. (Electronics) A number of other reviewers who are clearly more qualified than I am have given long and detailed reviews so I will not try to compete with those reviews.
I only want to say that this flash works great with my T2i. I also got some RF transmitters to use it off camera and it has given my photography a new look and me new abilities in my photography skills. For the price it cant be beat.

(Electronics) I've only tested the flash after receiving it to gauge its flash consistency, its recycle times and its control interface. So far it has been extraordinary. It may be a fluke but it's recycle times even exceeded that of my 580exII with fresh batteries in both and both connected to peripheral battery packs.
To give you some indication of how fast the YN-560 II recycles; I placed my camera on hi-speed continuous shooting. I put the YN-560 II on a backup 8 unit AA battery pack inclusive of its native 4 unit AA on board. Even in hi-speed continuous mode the flash fired every single time. Even after several minutes of shooting it never misfired. This would not be a typical circumstance as it would eventually lead to overheating. However, it clearly demonstrates the YN-560 II reliability. The Canon 580exII misfired several times, overexposed on several and didn't expose at all on others. Clearly the Canon 580exII is a more advanced and more complicated flash. This however, could... Read more
