Fujifilm EF-42 Shoe Mount Flash Reviews
24 of 24 people found the following review helpful Dedicated TTL flash for Fuji HS-20 and X-100, October 8, 2011 By DarthRad (United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Fujifilm EF-42 Shoe Mount Flash (Electronics) This is the same flash as the Sunpak PZ42x, except it has the proprietary Fuji TTL hotshoe connection instead of the Canon or Nikon hotshoe. The price difference from the Sunpak PZ42x has been steadily narrowing, and currently the Fuji EF-42 is only about $30 more than listed prices for the Sunpak.
I got this flash for my HS-20.
The flash has auto and manual features, and auto-zooms with the camera in the range of 24mm-105mm (35mm format). As long as you stay in this range, the flash has great coverage. For instance I can take pictures of my neighborhood at nighttime and get perfectly illuminated shots of houses over 200 feet away (at ISO 3200).
The TTL sensing can get confused from nearfield reflected light (especially in wide angle shots) and if there are any strongly reflective objects in the field, such as windows or street signs. That's probably more due to the camera auto exposure settings - if you use a manual camera mode and set it on Spot... Read more
7 of 7 people found the following review helpful A nice companion for the Fuji HS20, December 9, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Fujifilm EF-42 Shoe Mount Flash (Electronics) This is actually a rebranded Sunpak flash model, refitted with the proprietary Fuji hotshoe. I'm using it with a Fuji HS20 camera - one thing you should know, the flash's own focus assist light will not work with this particular camera (evidently the HS20 doesn't have the wiring to make that happen - no big deal since the HS20 has its OWN focus-assist light built-in). So if you purchase this flash unit and the light that's buried behind that red plastic front cover doesn't come on - it's okay, the flash isn't broken. The manual from Fuji specifically states that this function isnt going to work with all cameras. I've only had the unit for a week and have been very pleased with it thus far. I have NOT been able to find any written details as to this model's shutter sync speed - thus far, I've used the flash in TTL mode and at 1/30 shutter it's great. I've seen some forums where this flash is apparently able to sync with some of the Fuji line up to 1/2000.
All in all, it's... Read more
6 of 6 people found the following review helpful Intelligent TTL, works!, October 6, 2011 By Marika E. Buchberger "Shutter Bug" (New Jersey United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Fujifilm EF-42 Shoe Mount Flash (Electronics) This flash seems well made, not too heavy. Very intuitive to use. Powerful and recycles fast using Lithium AA batteries. Works perfect with the Fujifilm HS20EXR camera. If you own the Fujifilm HS20EXR camera I recommend that you buy this flash as it seems to help the camera focus faster and more accurately especially under less than ideal shooting conditions.
