Wonderful! What the FL-14 should have been, January 16, 2012 This review is from: Olympus FL-300R Compact Flash for Olympus E-P3 Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera (Camera) This is, in my opinion, the absolute best small flash for use with Olympus Pen bodies.
It's not very powerful - GN 28 - and the recycle time at full power is long. But it's substantially more powerful than the original small flash for Pens (the Olympus FL-14) despite using the same 2xAAA battery configuration. It also isn't much larger than the FL-14; indeed, even though the latter is somewhat smaller, the fact that the FL-300R does not have the built in right angle means that it can actually take up less bag space.
There are bigger advantages to this thing, though. Tilt it back, and you end up with bounce capability. Even more impressively: on an Olympus body that has a built-in (or clip-in) flash, you can fire the FL-300R wirelessly, making it an incredibly portable way to get off-camera lighting. Caution!, October 1, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Olympus FL-300R Compact Flash for Olympus E-P3 Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera (Camera) It isn't Amazon's fault, but this product didn't work right out of the box...brand new with my new eP3 camera....had to send both back to Olympus for repair....got camera back a week or so after 3 weeks in repair!
This flash is also on recall from Olympus for overheating problems. Something obviously went wrong...they didn't do the quality control needed before marketing it...NOT Amazon's fault, but caution when buying it!
