Great Flash, August 23, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Vivitar PRO Flash VIV-DF-483-NIK for Nikon SLR Cameras (Electronics) This flash is very easy to work with. I love its wireless TTL function and being able to use this flash at very fast shutter speeds. My built-in flash or my other flash do not work above 1/200 sec, but using the 483 I have gotten some exposures I would have not been able to get without it. For the price, this flash is definitely an investment and just as good as the Nikon speedlight. It also has a good battery life. I've taken probably 250 shots with it and I'm still using my first set of batteries and got it almost a month ago.

Powerful value, poor instructions, September 24, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Vivitar PRO Flash VIV-DF-483-NIK for Nikon SLR Cameras (Electronics) I haven't used it much yet but here are some observations. It recycles very quickly. I know that depends on the power level. It seems to flash as fast as I shoot. It's not as heavy as my Yungou. I like the built in milky color and waffle diffusers. The manual mode is easy to operate. The only confusion I've had is that the TTL display of f-stop and ISO disappear if the head angle is not bent to 90 degrees. It seems like the TTL mode is deactivated when the flash is not aligned with camera lens axis. This means I can't bounce light with TTL mode. The TTL mode will also deactivate if you swivel the head. The instruction manual is very brief. My camera does not have the sender/commander to use the wireless mode. It seems to be some kind of pulsed light or infrared control mode. Overall I like the unit, but better directions would have saved me some time. I use rechargeable NiMh batteries. Finally, the images with this flash have been great. I used it off-camera with a TTL extension cord... Read more
