GOOD IDEA BUT NOT PROPERLY DEVELOPED, November 7, 2010 By This review is from: Leica 18716 D-Lux 5 EVF 1 (Electronics) As a rangefinder photographer, digicams without viewfinders are anathema to me. The d-Lux 5 is absolutely teriffic and an improvement over the 4 which I also have.
The EVF, however, which I find essential, is really not sharp/clear enough even when using the diopter adjustment. I'll continue to use it until Panasonic comes out with a

the d lux 5 is a fabulous camera, with excellent image quality and manual control, but i felt it was lacking without a VF.
i bought the leica EVF1 to fix this. as soon as i put the EVF into the hot shoe i realised that it wasn't particularly clear... then i found the diopter switch and thought i could make it suddenly better but it still isn't very good. i also don't like that you need to press a button on the EVF to change between EVF and LCD, considering that other camera companies make EVFs which switch automatically, with higher resolution and for a lower price, i am not exactly impressed here.
although shooting through live view on the LCD doesn't really feel like proper photography, it is much clearer than through the EVF. I am considering buying a leica 35mm OVF (like for the... Read more

It's not as crisp as a Leica lens, but it's still good. I especially like that it gives a more accurate framing of the final image and is good to use in very brightly lit situations. A button on the side lets you go back and forth between it and the camera's display. Diopter works fine for me. But for what is does, it's expensive. Even so, I would buy it again.
Also like the accessory hand grip. Helps in making for a steadier shot.
