As others, I received one labeled MeiKe FC100 flash. They are all the same, sold with different stickers and quite different prices. Ring flashes are mostly used in macro photography to prevent shadows and supply a lot of light to be able to stop aperture down. Other applications are portraits and scientific photography.
The unit is actually much more versatile than I expected! It does both "Flash" and constant on mode, has a pilot button to test fire, can do left side/right side flash to add some soft shadows, and the output is adjustable.
Keep in mind that the camera does not recognize this as a real/TTL flash. In "Flash" mode, the LEDs basically turn on and off quickly (not a true flash). The "Flash" mode mainly saves battery power, and doesn't draw as much attention as the constant on mode. For portraits, it might also cause your subject to blink just when the image is taken... I didn't need anything fancy and sure didn't want to spend a ton of money. So I did a little online research and decided to give this macro ring a try. I've been very happy with the results. It weighs a fraction of what the really professional macro rings weigh, but considering my 5D Mk II and 24-105mm lens weigh half a ton by themselves, a lighter unit was just fine with me. It doesn't put out the greatest amount of light, but this is pretty easy to compensate for. I don't use it on a regular basis, so I'm only pulling it out maybe once a month or so. But the results have been terrific and I'm starting to use it for a few more things all the time. I'm a happy customer!
